merewether gully house
Built
2020 - 2022
Located in a leafy gully within the beachside suburb of Merewether, this modest single-story street elevation maintains and enhances the existing streetscape. To the rear, a generous two-story volume opens to frame an existing mature eucalyptus. The L-shaped plan, oriented to capture northern light, opens to a sunken garden and swimming pool, fostering a solid indoor and outdoor relationship. The pallet of expressed natural materials, large openings and solid operable casement windows offer comfort and privacy to the occupants in a setting where topography creates irregular relationships with neighbouring structures.
