Hamilton South House is situated in a neighbourhood of single-story, traditional early 1930s weatherboard cottages. The house maintains this historic character while expanding to the rear. A concealed circular courtyard adds emphasis, natural light, and fresh air to the central rooms while expanding the spatial dimensions of the open-plan living spaces. A plunge pool provides the background focus to this axial arrangement.
