Established in 2009, anthrosite was formed as an expression of our intent to prioritise user focused design responding to our local climate, the evolving culture and experience of place on Awabakal Land in Newcastle NSW.

Over the past decade, anthrosite has grown a reputation for quality design though a thoroughness in both design and delivery of residential buildings. Now, in our second decade, we are a small and highly engaged team committed to producing architectural designs that are responsive to their occupants and considerate to the environment.

We have found that strong relationships to the outdoors and integration of building and landscape is significant to human comfort and health. We believe in designing the whole site as the space in which you live; a room is not defined as at set of walls with a roof.

Experience shows us that whilst one may know a lot about a discipline none of us know everything, in life we learn and grown from every experience, they are all unique and fresh with opportunity. Because our world is not static but ever-changing, responding to design project with good design requires flexibility. We are not static in a doctrine but instead delight in the process of evolving in response to shifting context (including impacts of a global pandemic), experiences, ideas, material, research and technologies. All the above inform and augment the process of making a place to live and or work that is full of subtlety and depth that enhances the everyday of its user.

Our process/services for design and delivery of a building utilises a framework which we have outlined in our Welcome Pack, if you want to know more get in touch and we’ll send a copy your way.

Our studio uses a collaborative approach, aiming to build trust and understanding of  how the design is being developed by communication. Discussion, drawings, digital models and sometimes physical or whatever medium is most suitable to share ideas.
